Rotarian Steve Akers announced the Teacher for the Month of October is Judy Avant of Naples, who has been with the School Board of Lee County for 16 years.
The Academic Award was presented to Stephanie Conklin, a resident of Fort Myers, who has an academic standing of first in her class, with a grade-point average of 4.72.
Her field of study is nursing or some medical profession. Her activities outside of school include volunteering at the library.
The Service Award, which best exemplifies the Rotary International creed of "Service Above Self," was presented to Jessica Stephens of Fort Myers. She has an academic standing of sixth of 394 with a grade-point average of 4.53.
Her plans are to attend the University of Florida, but she is undecided about her field of study. Interests and activities outside of school include volleyball, soccer, softball, beach, and youth group.
The public is invited to meet the firemen of the 2004 Bonita Springs Firefighters Calendar at events in November, according to spokeswoman Debbi Redfield.
Scheduled events are:
-- Saturday and Sunday from noon until 4 p.m. at the Women's Expo, Harborside Events Center in downtown Fort Myers.
-- Thursday, Nov. 13, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Ben and Jerry's at the Promenade Shopping Center in Bonita Springs. -- Saturday, Nov. 22, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Dillards in the Coastland Center mall in Naples.
The Bonita Springs firemen will be at the above locations to sell and sign calendars at $13 each. Proceeds benefit local charities.
The Bonita Springs Men's Club will meet at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Spanish Wells Country Club on Bonita Beach Road.
President Wes Stillwaggon says the club is open to all men in the Bonita Springs area and the membership is $10 per year. There is an additional charge for those who play golf and participate in the annual golf tournament. The speaker will be State Rep. Carol Green, R-Fort Myers. She will discuss Florida health care and health care services.
A buffet lunch at $12 per person will be served after her program.
The regular book swap also will be held, so bring your used books.

The Barefoot Beach Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is expecting a busy meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 12, according to publicity chairwoman Ann Denney.
Members will be receiving details from Kay Springston, who has kindly stepped in to fill the duties of corresponding secretary, Denney said. Visiting DAR are welcome to attend and can call Estella at 992-9535 for more information.
The Barefoot Beach Chapter holds a luncheon meeting the second Wednesdays of October through May. New members are encouraged.
