The children are enrolled in the Young Filmmakers Program at the school. McDonnell, known for role in "Dances with Wolves" among other films, will receive the Crystal Heart award during the film festival. She also spoke at Gulf Coast High School to students enrolled in the same program.

The program will culminate on Filmmakers Day on April 23 when student films chosen by the schools will be showcased at the new Naples Film Festival.
