Volleyball: Aquinas ends Barron's season

Barron Collier fell two victories short of reaching the state volleyball tournament Saturday in Jupiter, losing in the regional semifinals to St. Thomas Aquinas, 26-24, 18-25, 25-19, 25-20.

"We've been flirting with danger all year long and getting away with it, but this time we had them, and we just didn't finish," Barron Collier coach Keith Edwards said.

"Looking back on the season, though, we have absolutely nothing to hang our heads about. This team broke the assist record, the ace record, the kill record and we went 8-0 in district play, winning the district championship."

BC, which finished 17-7, was led by Nichole Lien, who had 37 assists, Tiffany Rigor, who contributed 12 kills and five blocks, and Arielle Leboulch, who totaled 18 kills and four aces.

"I am extremely proud of this team," Edwards said. "This was Nichole Lien's last game, and as she has done all year, she played her heart out and left nothing on the court."
