At the same time community leaders and the public were arriving for the City Council meeting, parents were dropping their kids off for the Game Olympics program.
It was a good showing of community support for both events.
Dan Jenkins, Mackle Park recreation leader, had to turn kids away. Only seven children showed up for the first session when Mackle Park first introduced this program in September. It seems that the program has caught on. Word of advice: Preregister for youth and adult programs, that way the park staff can accommodate everyone.
In the large meeting room, the community was gathering early to show support, pro or con, for two major issues: what to do with beach renourishment money and a zoning change for Tom Lydon's Goodland property.
With the Game Olympics -- normally held on Friday nights -- scheduled at the same time, parents who might not normally attend a council meeting got a chance to participate.
It was a nice mix of kids and adults using the Mackle Park facilities at the same time.
The Mackle Park Master Plan Committee will hold meetings at 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 18 and 19. Show your support to improve the park's facilities, so it will truly be a community center.
