MADD Southwest Florida is looking for more energetic, active volunteers in its mission to stop drunk driving, assist the victims of this violent crime, and prevent underage drinking. All donations made to the local chapter stay in the community to help achieve this mission.

To learn more about MADD, or to learn about MADD's public speaking service, call (239) 936-2902 or (866) 723-6233. Membership meetings are quarterly, on the second Monday of the month, at 7 p.m. in the MADD office at 1620 Medical Lane, Suite 120, Fort Myers. The next membership meeting will be Dec. 8, 2003.

MADD's Red Ribbon campaign, "Tie One On For Safety," will begin Thanksgiving weekend, and will end on New Year's Day. This holiday season is the most lethal time of the year for being involved in a drunk driving crash. The red ribbons, tied onto vehicles, serve as a visible reminder to motorists to be extra cautious this time of year.

Call the MADD office if you would like to learn more about this program or if you would like to distribute ribbons in your neighborhood.

Yogi Berra, the famous New York Yankee baseball catcher, will address the Bonita Springs Speakers Assembly at noon Friday at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort. The topic for this luncheon will be "Did I Really Say All Those Things? What's a Malapropism Anyway?"

Assembly president Frances Luessenhop noted that "our season is beginning with a bang, having a much loved national icon as our opening speaker. Maybe Yogi didn't say all those things, but we can't wait to hear him and hope he'll come up with a new one."

A member of the Baseball Hall of Fame and an integral part of the Yankee dynasty that achieved five straight world championships between 1949 and 1953, Yogi won three MVP awards and set a record for playing in 14 World Series and 10 championships. Other highlights of his baseball career include hitting a home run at his first at bat in his Major League Baseball debut and calling all the signals for Don Larsen's perfect game during the World Series.

Sharing the podium with Yogi will be Bob Turley and Bert Blyleven. Turley was known as "Bullet Bob" because of his scorching fast ball. As a Yankee pitcher, he hurled three one-hitters. Bert Blyleven, an outstanding Minnesota Twins pitcher and a candidate for the Hall of Fame himself, will direct audience questions to Yogi.
