Looking Back: 1956 photo of Naples

The year is estimated at 1956. The place is Naples, from approximately The Moorings and extending south onto the horizon.

That is Coquina Sands (white, right of lower center) under development with the Naples Beach Club's golf course and Old Naples above it (south). Naples Municipal Airport anchors the left side of the photo as U.S. 41 East reaches to East Naples.

"The mangrove forest that was Port Royal and Aqualane Shores has been dredged and filled," notes Naples Natural Resources Director Jon Staiger, who loans this photo.
