Youth: Tropic Wave keeps rolling

The Southwest Florida Tropic Wave 14-and-under girl's fastpitch softball team started the fall season just as they ended the spring -- in winning fashion.

The Tropic Wave, ranked 4th in the state of by one pre-season ranking, has won all five fall tournaments in which they have participated, rolling to a combined record of 20-2-1. Both losses were by one run. The five tournaments were Labor Day at Venice, the 1st Annual Bradenton Iron Women (two one-day tournaments), Bulletween in Clearwater, and Sarasota Scream.

Last spring the Waved ended up with a 45-13 record, including a fifth-place finish in a season ending national tournament (out of 38 teams competing).

The Tropic Wave players are: Erin Beal (catcher, outfield), Arielle Buchholz (outfield), Kirsti Buchholz (pitcher, catcher, outfield), Missy Gannon (third base, outfield), Hayley Grabner (outfield), Felicia Huffman (shortstop), Rikki Lee Larson (pitcher, third base), Samantha Mandello (outfield), Erin Olson (first base), Mallory Parsons (pitcher, catcher, outfield), Katie Schlottman (second base), Tina Stetler (outfield), and Jami Whitcomb (pitcher, outfield).

The next tournament challenge for Tropic Wave is Nov. 22-23 in Bartow.
