Delay granted in case of ex-superintendent Sanders

Attorneys representing the Lee County School Board and former Schools Superintendent John Sanders asked and were granted permission Tuesday to delay submission of their proposed outcomes of a September hearing in which Sanders argued that he was wrongfully terminated in March.

In court papers filed Tuesday, School Board attorney Thomas Gonzalez and Sanders' attorney Richard Johnston Jr. jointly asked for two more weeks to provide suggested actions that would close the case. Administrative Law Judge T. Kent Wetherell agreed to let the attorneys have until Dec. 8 to suggest outcomes, which could range from no compensation or up to $500,000 in salary and benefits. Wetherell would then have a month to announce his ruling.
