Take a tour of the Island's most elegant homes Dec. 9

A tour of some of the island's most elegant homes is just one of many activities planned for those who attend the Marco Island Christian Women's Club Parade of Homes on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

"It is a full day that has become a mark-your-calendar event for many people on the island," said Cindy Anderson, publicity chairwoman. Each guest also will receive a sand dollar favor, created by Lucy Bleau, club vice chairwoman.

Tickets for the lunch and tour are $40.

The day begins at 10:30 a.m.

at the Olde Marco Inn & Suites.

Marcia Trego will speak on Superwoman Syndrome: The Fast Lane is Scary and I Can't Find the Exit. Popular local singer Barbara Schiering will perform.

A luncheon fashion show will feature clothes from Tonga's Designs, Class Act, and Kay's on the Beach. Models include Babs Hillenbrand, Carolyn Dosse, Kathy Lord, Rachael Klein, Donna Rohrback, and Sheila Luciano.

At 12:30 p.m., guests in groups of 50 will depart to all five home locations, meeting up at the Marco Presbyterian Church for tea and cookies between 2 and 4 p.m. Crafts, designer eyewear, jewelry and handbags will be on sale.

There also will be raffle tickets for various prizes.

Anderson toured all five homes to give a preview.

She calls the Mediterranean- style home at 1578 S. Barfield Court "exquisite." The home was designed by South Florida Architectural Associates, built by Dynasty Builders Inc., and decorated by Wisehawk Enterprises with Linda Ross Hess consulting.

There are seven custom- made chandeliers in the home, which has 4,000 square feet under air. Another 3,000 square feet includes a spacious lanai, garden and swimming pool with a spa. There is a granite bar with a grill, stainless steel sink, cabana powder room and Jacuzzi.

A walkway from the foyer to the pool takes one over a koi- filled pond with a waterfall.

The master bedroom features a lighted tray ceiling with cypress tongue and groove planking. The impressive kitchen matches maple cabinets with granite countertops, and stainless steel appliances. Murals are done in creams and Grecian ivory.

The home of Leo and Michele Deutsch, at 1264 Laurel Court, is an indoor-outdoor wonder, Anderson said. The home has six lush gardens.

Anderson described the home as Mediterranean eclectic, featuring artistic pieces from India, Greece, and Italy.

Nearly every room accesses the spacious pool area, which offers a view of the Judge S. S.

Jolly Bridge.

The bright and airy kitchen has faux-finished walls and slate floors. There is a fireplace, a totem pole, a kitchen counter table made of maple, and cabinets designed as furniture, Anderson said. Next to the butler's pantry is a built-in stain glass window from Italy.

Anderson said tour guests will be in awe before they even enter Denise and Dan Dufault's "Revelations" home at 1441 Caxambas Court. The total home area is 16,754 square feet, with 6,239 square feet under air.

Entry is through a 16-foot Colombian mahogany door with etched and leaded glass foyer windows depicting scenes from the Bible, Anderson said.

Almost every room overlooks Caxambas Pass. Many walls and ceilings are painted in faux finishes, and the floors are of Italian marble.

The home features an assortment of antique clocks, an antique Singer sewing machine and an Anna Lee doll collection.

This will be Pat and Clint Bunke's first Christmas at their 166 Geranium Court home. Anderson said the four- bedroom Mediterranean home is decorated with an eclectic flair.

Upon entering the library, guests will see Pat Bunke's dad's 1930 typewriter and the violin he played in the Notre Dame orchestra. The family room features a cross-coffered ceiling and the kitchen area has an attractive banquette, replete with table and chairs form Bali. The lanai showcases the owners' orchids.

There are several original paintings in the home, including one by the Bunkes' daughter, Bridget, and two portraits of the family pets by local artist Jim Foote.

Holiday decorations will feature a tree done in blue and green hues, with ornaments from their former home in Illinois, and festive touches by Marco Island Florist. Ray Smith Floral of Naples also is participating in floral decorations.

Christmas trees adorned with silver ornaments, collected since 1971, will put guests into the Christmas spirit at Bonnie and Mike Sigfried's home at 560 Hammock Court.

Anderson said the trees also will feature porcelain figurines and German traditional wood figurines, along with some Florida glitz.

She said guests will enjoy the custom alderwood den and its photo wall of family Christmas cards.

"Each home has its unique qualities that I think will be popular," Anderson said.

Money raised will go for holiday gifts to be sent to the missionaries of Stonecroft Ministries, an interdenominational evangelistic outreach for men and women.

The event committee includes Jeannie McGill, chairwoman; Bleau, vice chairwoman; Rohrback and Luciano, special features co-chairwomen; Fay Biles, home selection; and Anderson, program assistant.

Luncheon tickets can be purchased by sending a check for $40, made out to the Marco Island Christian Women's Club, to P.O. Box 2405 Marco Island, FL 34146-6939.

Guests will receive their tickets when they arrive on the day of the event. For more information, call Anderson at 393-0656.
