NFL: Team to look more like orange roughy

DAVIE -- The Dolphins training facility is awash in orange decorations. All of the press releases this week are even in orange. No, the team's calendars don't say it's Halloween. It's all connected to Miami wearing its alternate orange jerseys for the first time when it plays the Redskins on Sunday night.

"Are we wearing those this week? Oh, boy," quarterback Brian Griese said. "I thought we were going to wear them for Halloween because we look like pumpkins."

However, tight end Randy McMichael wouldn't mind if they were the team's regular jerseys.

"I think they are nice," he said.

"I think it will be a little something different. I wish we could make it a permanent part of the uniform, but it's not going to be so it's going to be exciting for us."

"I think they look good," defensive end Jason Taylor said.

"Are they going to help us win a ballgame? No. Are they going to cost us a ballgame? No. It will look good. It will be something different."

A different look is fine, as far as Taylor is concerned. But it may not be so good for, let's say, the bulkier players.

"Some big guys look like pumpkins, but if we all look the same, we can blend in," Taylor said. "(Tim Bowens) and Larry (Chester) will both look like pumpkins, yes."

"Hey, I don't really care about all of that stuff," middle linebacker Zach Thomas said.

"It's not how you look, it's how you play. That makes you look real pretty."

CANNED FOOD DRIVE: The Dolphins will be holding their annual canned food drive, which benefits the Daily Bread Food Bank, at Sunday night's game at 8:30.

All fans attending Sunday night's game at Pro Player Stadium are encouraged to bring canned food and non- perishable food items for the Daily Bread Food Bank. There will be volunteers stationed at each of the entry gates collecting the donations, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

BLAKLEY GONE: Tight end Dwayne Blakley was cut from the practice squad Wednesday after just over a week. Center Ben Claxton was signed to take his place. Claxton was a fifth- round draft choice of Denver this year and was waived prior to the regular season. He was on Cleveland's practice squad for two weeks, then waived Nov. 4.

INJURIES: Guards Jamie Nails and Todd Perry did not practice for the second straight day. Quarterback Jay Fiedler practiced for the second day in a row after missing a month with a knee injury.

Miami head coach Dave Wannstedt said no decision has been made on the starting quarterback or if wide receiver Oronde Gadsden, signed on Wednesday, would play this week.
