Youth: Naples Gators look to advance

The Naples Gators 115-pound youth football team will try to extend its season today in Hialeah and move closer to an appearance at the Orange Bowl.

Naples will take on the Miami Gardens Chargers at Hendricks Stadium in Milander Park at 3 p.m. The winner will be crowned the MXYFL conference champion in the Fed Ex Orange Bowl Youth Football League.

Should the Gators advance, they will move on to the regional playoff game Dec. 1. The winner there gets to play in the Orange Bowl Fed Ex Super Bowl at the Orange Bowl on Dec. 13.

The team is made up of boys between the ages of 11-13.

Naples went 7-2 during the regular season. One loss was to the unbeaten Chargers. The other was to the Hialeah Cougars, the team Naples beat last week, 21-6, to reach the conference championship game.

Jeff Zablo is the head coach of the Gators and he is assisted by Ed Wilson, Dean Walls and Rob Charles.
