Local Bowling: Matson shoots 300 game at Beacon Bowl

Gary Matson may be getting older, but apparently he's getting better, too.

Matson rolled his fifth perfect game last week in the TGIF Mixed league at Beacon Bowl, shooting games of 214, 300 and 247 for a 761 series.

But now that he's 55 years old, Matson is considered a senior bowler by the American Bowling Congress, so this is his first 300 as a senior.

Matson, who helps coordinate the leagues at Beacon, bowls in three leagues and carries a composite average of 204. He has lived in Naples for 23 years.

The Collier County Women's Bowling Association is holding its annual Christmas Fun Tournament on Dec. 13 and 14 at Woodside Lanes. All sanctioned bowlers in Collier and Lee counties are eligible to enter.

Approximately 500 bowlers are expected. For more information, call Diana Holmbeck at 775-3198.
