Basketball: Lely, Community School boys win

The Lely High boys basketball teams defeated Sebring, 74-62, on Tuesday night in a preseason game at the Naples Tip-Off Classic.

Ryan Hornsby led the Trojan with 19 points, six assists and six steals and played well on the floor. Devin Dolan had 11 points, six assists and head coach Don Stewart was pleased with the team's overall performance.

'We were much more prepared to play a basketball game tonight," Stewart said. "These tip-offs are a god chance to see where you're at heading into the season."

Mike Radcliffe chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds and Fritz Jacques led the way defensively for the Trojans with five steals.

Lely opens the regular season at home next Tuesday against Fort Myers, led by 6-foot-8 center Robinson Louisme.

Community School beat Naples, 62-54, in the second game of the night.

"We had trouble scoring in the first two games and we tried to hide it by playing defense and rebounding. It finally caught up to us and we lost to a really tough team tonight."

Garrett Hull led the Golden Eagles with 24 points and Mark Wise added 13.

Casey Berry led all scorers with 30 points for the Seahawks. Jesse Greenberg added 13.

"It was a great team effort again tonight," said Seahawks coach Bill Carufe. "We have made some progress in our half-court man and zone defense over the past two nights. Casey turned in an outstanding offensive effort, but his defense was just as important."

Naples open the regular season at home next Tuesday against Cypress Lake at 7:30 p.m. Community School opens at Immokalee next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
