So it goes without saying that today, we've got to talk.
You know. Talk turkey.
And maybe a little chickee, too.
But let's dare not get the two confused. A turkey may be a bird, but a chickee isn't.
Well, it could be. But not this kind of chickee.
Oh, never mind, feathered friends. Here are the "bare bones" of what you really need to know:
Another "Turkey Classic" is in progress at the Pelican Bay Park tennis complex. It started Wednesday and today, actually, there will be no action because of, well, it's Turkey Day, remember?
The doubles and mixed doubles will run through Sunday.
Now, here's where the chickee comes in.
Not just any chickee, mind you, the 7th Annual Chickee Classic that looms at the Camber Park Tennis Center.
This year's entry deadline is Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 5 p.m. Cambier's Kevin Walker says a sizeable field is expected for the event that will run Dec. 5-7.
This USTA-sanctioned tourney includes men's and women's NTRP singles and doubles. The entry fee is $30 per person for singles and $20 per person for doubles, or $45 for both.
Walker adds that this is a "designated" tournament and he expects this to be a factor in the increased size of the draw as well.
For more information or over-the-phone registration, call 213-3060.
Just don't talk turkey when you mean to talk chickee.
Got it?

Hosting the event are two-time Australian Open champion Johan Kriek of Naples, and his wife, Tish. Ms. O'Connell's group was picked out of a hat of 20 classes.
The Krieks will have help that day from Peter Kriek of Kensington, Kris Clark from Wyndemere, Mary Fink from Tarpon Cove and Steve Vaughn from Grey Oaks.
Manatee Middle has four on-site tennis courts. Each pro will be assigned a court with six students and the Krieks will move from court-to-court in order to touch base with all participants.
Tennis rackets and balls will be provided for the clinic and following thes session, the Krieks will he donating the tennis equipment to the school.

The name of one of the locals who played in last week's National Senior Women's Intersectional Team Championship at the Naples Bath & Tennis Club was inadvertantly omitted from Monday's tourney wrap-up in the Daily News.
Also in the field was Marilyn Skiffington, the 75's winning team captain of the Florida section.
A number of locals fared well in recent junior state designated tournament action on the east coast of Florida.
