'Gardening with Water'

By James Van Sweden; Grayson, $35

A home pond or lake beautiful to watch, pleasant to hear and easy -- well, almost -- to care for. The fish one adds and the plant life in the pond can both clean and aerate it for the owner, and the author offers all kinds of alternatives to help the water gardener make choices. Here is a sample of his writing:

"Fish add life, color and motion to a pool, and are an important element for maintaining a biologically balanced pool. Not only are they fun to watch and feed, but they also control algae, plant growth and insects, such as mosquitoes. . . To determine the correct number of fish for your pool, determine the number of gallons that your pool contains and figure approximately one inch of fish for every three to five gallons of water."
