The Indians, in their first outing of the season, lost five matches and won three in the tournament, which took place Friday and Saturday. The Indians beat La Belle, 42-27, Alonzo, 34-33 and North Port, 42-27. They lost to Lemon Bay, Port Charlotte, Seminole, Bradenton Bayshore and Sickles.
Immokalee's Michael Estrada was 7-0 at 125 pounds and Adolpho Manzano was 6-1 at 140. Michael Chery and Jesse Herrera were 6-2 at 112 and 130 pounds, respectively.
Immokalee coach Ed Munn cited the fact that he was without his wrestlers that also play football. The football team lost in the playoffs on Friday night.
As proof of the fact that the team was weaker without its heavier wrestlers, Immokalee started in the 160-pound division and was blanked 36-0 three times.
"Every time the football team does well, we don't get those guys before the playoffs are over," Munn said.
The football players must practice with the wrestling team five times before they can compete. Munn said he hopes the football players can practice all this week so they will be eligible for the Archbishop McCarthy Tournament in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday.
