It was their second win in three tournaments, capturing the Clearwater Ironwomen two weeks earlier.
After defeating the 2003 World Champion Pembroke Pines Diamond Dusters, the girls played the Greater Naples Sun Devils for their seed game wins. The wins gave Heat Wave the top seeding, which allowed them to receive a bye on the first-round eliminations. In the quarterfinals, they handily defeated the Ft. Myers Fillies and proceeded to the championship round.
Jazmin Swope pitched five strong innings and was relieved by Kristen Sardina, who also had an RBI bunt single in the victory.
The team is managed by Jeff Stevens, coached by Jeff Metzger, and pitching coach Jorge Sardina. In addition to Swope and Sardina, the other players on the team were Taylor Boone, Tyler Davidson, Stephanie Metzger, Maria Reyes, Victoria Romaine, Lauren Stevens, Marisa Ward, and Lauren Wilhelm who performed flawlessly capturing a decisive tournament win.
The Heat Wave has won two of their last three tournaments and placed second in the other. The girls play next Dec. 6 and 7 in Punta Gorda.
Gymnastic World Level 6 Team Members Jerrica Klein, Kristen Urbanowski and Paige Berman captured gold medals at the 2003 Sunfest Meet held Nov. 14 in Sarasota.
Jerrica Klein captured first-place all-around honors in the 13-year-old division with a 36.55. She earned a 9.00 (1) on uneven bars, a 9.00 (1) on beam, a 9.00 (1) on floor exercise and a 9.50 (2) on vault.
Kristen Urbanowski took second place all-around honors in the 12-year-old division with a 34.275. She scored a 9.00 (1) on uneven bars, an 8.525 (1) on beam, an 8.40 (4) on floor exercise and an 8.35 on vault.
Paige Berman finished second in the all-around in the 10-year-old division with a score of 35.95. She earned scores of 8.60 on uneven bars, a 9.175 (1) on beam, an 8.80 (4) on floor exercise and a 9.375 (5) on vault.
Emily Kahle captured fourth-place all-around honors in the 9- and 10-year-old-division with a 35.925.
Also in the 9- and 10-year-old division, Mia Longo earned an all-around score of 34.70.
The Level 6 Team placed third in the competition.
Gymnastic World Level 5 Team Members Taylor Surprenant and Cassidy Stevens competed in the meet as well.
Stevens earned an all-around score of 35.175 (8) in the 10-year-old division. Surprenant earned an all-around score of 35.10 (9) in the 10-Year-old division.
The Florida Swim Team, based out of Naples, took 25 swimmers to Sarasota last weekend to compete in the Turkey Meet, a regional meet for USS Swimming. Five swimmers placed in the top eight overall in their respective age groups, and those same five made their Junior Olympic cuts.
The team is heading next to Plantation from Dec. 12-14 for an invitation-only international meet hosted by Speedo.
