This week in 1976, a factory-built, two-story "stilt house" caused a stir when it was set up on Century Road off Collier Boulevard in the heart of the island's posh community.
The agent for the house planned to moved more of them to Marco Island.
Deltona Corp. officials, developers of the island, said they were besieged with calls from residents complaining about the house.
In other news, an apparent breakdown in communication forced a delay in the Collier County Commission's decision on which of two firms would pick up Marco Island's garbage after July.
Commissioners learned they had more preliminary work to do on a franchise agreement before they decided who should get the franchise.
