Clewiston eliminates Wolfpack

Clewiston outscored South Fort Myers by nine points in the third quarter to break open a tight game and went on to a 58-46 victory over the Wolfpack in the Class 4A District 11 tournament at Estero on Tuesday.

Josue Rodriguez had 11 points and seven rebounds, and Jimmy Jean added 10 points for South Fort Myers (11-15), but both players ended up fouling out. The Wolfpack also committed 26 turnovers.

"We got outscored 17-8 in the third quarter," South Fort Myers coach Greg Anderson said. "That enabled them to build a 15-point lead. We cut it to six with just over a minute to go, but couldn't get any closer than that."

Anderson was disappointed that the inaugural season had ended, but there is something to build on.

"I think, in terms of wins and losses, it was a success for a first-year program to get double-digit wins," he said. "Like any other young team, we've got a long way to go. I think there's a pretty good core group here that can get that done."

Clewiston (13-2) didn't start its season until after the football playoffs had ended.
