A 19-year-old was killed late Wednesday on Corkscrew Road in Lee County when the driver’s vehicle left the road and struck a tree, authorities said.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the westbound driver tried to negotiate a curve at about 9:30 p.m. less than a mile east of Wildcat Run Road when the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer traveled onto the shoulder of Corkscrew. The driver then overcorrected the vehicle, which began to rotate counter-clockwise, according to a highway patrol accident report.
The Blazer traveled across Corkscrew and onto the south shoulder, where it overturned and struck a tree, authorities said. The vehicle came to rest on its top facing north on the south shoulder.
The driver was identified as a 19-year-old, although other details weren’t released this morning.
Investigators said the driver had been wearing a seat belt. The driver was alone in the vehicle.
