Investigators are waiting for test results before confirming the identities of two people killed in Wednesday’s murder-suicide in the Park Shore neighborhood.
“One body is too decomposed for us to make a positive I.D., so we’re waiting for further testing,” Naples police Sgt. Ralph Cox said. “We don’t feel comfortable making a visual identification, so we’re waiting for some other tests to confirm everything.”
Cox said autopsies will be performed on the bodies. He didn’t know when the autopsies would occur or when positive identifications would be available.
Investigators are trying to determine how long the bodies had been inside the home before they were discovered.
The bodies were found at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at 655 Fountainhead Way. Family members on Wednesday confirmed that Stephen John Lennon, 48, and Nilda C. Mattaini, 51, were found dead inside the house.
Cox said investigators are processing evidence in the case.
“We’re sitting back waiting for things to get processed right now. Waiting for the testing and the autopsies,” he said.
The case is the first homicide in the city since February 2001.
