County help is needed to manage ever increasing traffic on beautiful Coconut Road, west of U.S. 41. This includes restoring our right-turn lane going south onto U.S. 41 and an epiphany “of sorts” for Weeks Fish Camp.
From 1988 to date, Coconut Road, a two-lane road, has been repaved, bike trails added and landscaping planted.
Looking good folks! On the flip side, the right-turn lane disappeared at the intersection of Coconut and U.S. 41 when 41 was widened.
In 1988, Coconut Road serviced Eldorado Acres, Spring Creek Village, Spring Creek Drive, Weeks Fish Camp and the Elk’s Club.
Since 1988, add the great Hyatt hotel and adjoining Hyatt golf resort, The Colony, Raptors, Coconut Shores, Meadowbrook, Pelican’s Landing beach parking and Pelican Landing access.
There’s more to come with new high- rises going into The Colony, a new community and shops at Weeks Fish Camp and a new shopping center at the north corner of Coconut and U.S. 41.
Amazing growth for a two-laner. All said, the right-turn lane needs to be restored. Actually, drivers are helping do just that, driving on the shoulder and new sidewalk then feeding into 41 traffic without a merge lane. We’d appreciate a fix to expedite traffic flow and ensure traffic safety.
Last but not least, the fish camp. I understand the developers face “financial challenges.” Should Lee County step in and purchase the land to ensure a public boat ramp and preserve a wetlands area?
Just a thought to promote long-term benefits.
