Overturned truck halts southbound I-75 traffic

Morning rush came to a complete halt Wednesday morning when a tractor-trailer overturned at about 5:40 a.m. on Interstate 75 at the Vanderbilt Beach Road overpass.

The crash blocked both southbound lanes, forcing authorities to close southbound I-75 between Immokalee Road and Pine Ridge Road.

Southbound traffic was urged to use Livingston Road or Airport-Pulling Road, then re-enter I-75 at the Pine Ridge Road interchange. The southbound lanes re-opened at about 9:11 a.m.

A fuel leak on the overturned semi and several minor vehicle accidents related to the slow- moving traffic also were reported.

Lt. Darren Sapp said there was one minor accident on the northbound side of I-75.
