Sheila’s Out Shopping: Red hots

I wanted to buy a Valentine gift that my husband and I could both enjoy. I thought of candy and flowers but crossed them off my list — too many calories, not enough endurance.

I decided on intimate apparel. I could look good (hopefully) and he would have happy thoughts. A win-win for both of us.

I started at Macy’s, but didn’t find exactly what I wanted. They had red satin pajamas ($29.98), a red chemise ($15.98) and a matching short wrap robe ($21.98) all by Morgan Taylor. If red isn’t your color, it also comes in black with small pink polka dots.

Victoria Secret has a nice selection in Valentine colors — red, shades of pink, and white. The store’s solid color Angel panties (a silky stretch fabric) are three for $30; printed cotton bikinis or briefs are five for $25. Check out the Pink collection —similar to Juicy, but the price is much lower.

I hit paydirt, though, when I visited Femmes Je Vous Aime. When I saw the hearts on the dressing room curtains, I knew I was in the right place. Everything there is made in France or Italy, and everything has a sensual elegance.

I wanted something red but there was a brown embroidered bra with gold sequins, and an acid green one with bright flowers. The gorgeous bathing suits and cover-ups also sidetracked me.

I finally settled on a Cotton Club burgundy lace bra ($185) and panties ($80).

And the laced-up front chemise nightgown by Marie Claude ($115) had so much style in its simplicity I couldn’t resist. I also adored the designer’s nightgown with the lace bodice ($115).
