Sheila’s Out Shopping: Spring training

Spring is right around the corner. To get your muscles toned and your abs in shape, you have to exercise. Running, cycling, Pilates, Jazzercize, jumping jacks, sit-ups. You name it. Just do it.

But you can’t just throw on any old thing. You need a new workout outfit. I went shopping and found some fashionable, easy-to-wear options.

JCC — how can you miss, it stands for Just Comfortable Clothes? — has a cotton pant ($86), T-shirt ($20) and hooded jacket ($92) that will take you from exercise class to around town in style. I love the lavender, but it also comes in sage, butter or melon. Sizes are 1-4, to make you feel good: When were you ever a 1? There’s also a woven zip jacket ($108) that can act as a blazer.

Eileen Fisher has an ultra-soft sueded cotton double zip jacket ($158) and elastic waist pants ($138) in oasis (aqua) or pumice (taupe). Add a T-back camisole ($58) or short sleeve T-shirt ($42) in black or white. This outfit can definitely go beyond exercise class. It would be perfect for long trips, or you can wear it to Fort Myers to see the Red Sox or Twins work out.

Tommy Bahama’s has a hooded jacket ($125) and pants ($98) in vanilla-colored terrycloth: great for after a swimming workout. They also have cotton cropped pants in melon ($98) and a matching hooded jacket ($110).

Another way to look good when you’re running away: a black zip jacket with a light blue flowered back ($125). Finish the look with black pull-on pants ($125).

These outfits should put some spring in your step.

Trends for spring

Look for more lace, crochet, shorts (long and short), white shirts (you saw them this winter), platform shoes and gladiator sandals. Also, chartreuse seems to be popping up. And shades of aqua are still very popular.
