Obit: Dorothy D. Black

Dorothy D. Black, 83, of Naples passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2006, in Hendersonville, N.C. She was born Jan. 21, 1923 in Pittsburgh, PA and after residing in Greenwich, Ct., and summering on Cape Cod, Mass., retired to Marco Island in 1974 with her husband, T. Howard Black, Jr. They enjoyed 35 years of marriage.

She was widowed in September, 1980 and had just recently moved to Hendersonville, N.C., after many years of service to the community on Marco Island in the Newcomers Club, the Alumni Club, the Bargain Basket, the Urgent Care Center, the Women's Club and Santa's Helpers.

Surviving are two step-daughters, Karen B. Burgin of Brooklyn, NY, and Christine B. Bluestein and husband, Richard, of New York, NY; sons T. HowardBlack of Champaign, IL and William R. Black and wife, Kathy, of Coto de Caza, Calif., and daughters Margaret C. Black of Naples and Dorothy B. Siggs andhusband, Ron, of Hendersonville, N.C.

She leaves eight grandchildren, Cecilia Streit, Rachel Bluestein, Barbara Cary, Eric Harrelson, Sara Rieke, Ryan Black, Julianna Koenig, Jonothan Black and Abigail Miller and nine great-grandchildren, Caley, E.J., William,Dalia, Oliver, Peyton, George, Henry and Daniel. She also 1eaves numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and cherished friends.

The family will have a small memorial service on Marco Island.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the North Shore Animal League, 16 Lewyt St., Port Washington, N.Y. 11050.

Dorothy was as good as they come and she gave freely of her time and love to the community. I am sure there is a special place in heaven for her. When is the service?
