Sale for a child

A rummage and bake sale will be held from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Centerpoint Community Church, 6590 Golden Gate Parkway, Naples, to raise funds for a local couple to travel to China to adopt a special needs baby. Donations may also be made at any Suntrust Bank in the name of Scott and Stephanie Conley. Information: 353-1672

Adopt-a-thon

The Humane Society of Lee County will hold an adopt-a-thon from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdayand from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday at Petsmart, Page Field Commons, 5013 S. Cleveland Ave. (U.S. 41), Fort Myers. Donations of pet food and cat litter will be accepted. Information: (239) 332-0364

Golf tournaments

-- The Joel Ingersoll Memorial Scholarship tournament for Johnson & Wales University will be held at 8 a.m. July 16 at Pelican Marsh Golf Club, 1810 Persimmon Drive, Naples. -- Alcoholic Anonymous Serenity Club facilities will benefit from the tournament at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 19 at Vanderbilt Country Club, 8350 Danbury Blvd., Naples. Lunch and awards follow the tournament. $75. Information: 304-4401

Book drive

You can help rebuild libraries in Louisiana and Mississippi schools destroyed by Hurricane Katrina by purchasing a book. Here’s how it works: Buy a book suitable for children in kindergarten through 12th grade and leave it with the cashier at Barnes & Nobles Booksellers, 5377 U.S. 41 N., Naples. Books will be delivered to the schools in August. Barnes & Noble will also donate a percentage of the sales as a cash contribution to the schools. Information: 598-5200

The Second A.C.T. Thrift Store is now located at 11491 U.S. 41, Fort Myers (behind Stevie Tomatoes). The store is the fund-raising division of Abuse Counseling and Treatment. Information: (239) 939-2553

Grants received

The Conservancy of Southwest Florida received $5,000 from Sea World and Busch Gardens’ Conservation Fund. The grant is designated for the Conservancy’s wildlife surgical support fund.

Good deeds

-- Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida sold more than 10,000 packages of cookies that were then donated to military personal. The cookies were shipped to MacDill Air Force base to be distributed to active military men and women.

-- Molly Maid in Naples will give a portion of its October service fees to the Shelter for Abused Women & Children’s Making A Difference campaign.

-- The American Cancer Society sent 23 local children to Reaching Out to Cancer Kids Camp from July 2-8.
