Book drive
Youth Haven and Borders Books Music Movies & Cafe, have partnered to improve the reading skills of the children in the shelter. Books for Youth Haven can be purchased at Borders, 106000 U.S. 41 N., Naples, between July 23 and Aug. 31. Borders will also give Youth Haven five percent of the sales of the donated books. ‘Night for Our Stars’
The ABLE Academy Foundation, a not-for-profit organization for children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities, is sponsoring “Night for Our Stars,” at 6 p.m. July 28, at Sanibel Steakhouse, 24041 U.S. 41 S., Bonita Springs. The event includes hors d’oeuvres, wine and beer, a silent auction and Dunkin’s Diamonds champagne diamond drop (a chance to win a diamond that has been placed in one of 100 glasses of champagne). $100 (champagne diamond drop); $35 (admission). Cell phone collection
Project HELP is collecting old cell phones from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. July 29, at the Crime Prevention Week Display, Coastland Center, 1900 U.S. 41, Naples. Phones, batteries and chargers may also be dropped at 850 Central Ave., Suite 201, Naples, until Aug. 31. Information: 649-1404
Doggie wash
The Humane Society of Lee County will sponsor a doggie wash fundraiser from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. July 29, at Veridian, a Gulfstream Homes community on McGregor Boulevard in Fort Myers, west of San Carlos Boulevard. The event includes micro-chipping for dogs and cats, fingerprinting for children, free hot dogs and drinks, games and prizes. $10 (micro-chip); $5-$10 (doggie wash, depending on size). Free services for donations
Integrated Medical Center, 28315 U.S. 41, Bonita Springs, a chiropractic office, will offer some complientary services on July 27, with a donation of cash or goods for the Shelter for Abused Women & Children. New patients who make a donation will recieve free examinations and X-rays; existing patients will receive a complimentary adjustment and spot massage. The shelter needs children’s and baby clothing, twin-size bed linens, towels, plastic dinnerware, cookware, paper towels, tissues, detergent and coffee. Information: 947-1177
Golf tournaments
-- The Joel Ingersoll Memorial Scholarship tournament for Johnson & Wales University will be held at 8 a.m. Sunday, July 16, at Pelican Marsh Golf Club, 1810 Persimmon Drive, Naples.
