Quo Vadis youth rally

High school students are invited to the Quo Vadis youth rally from 1-7 p.m. Saturday at Ave Maria University’s Interim Campus, Stella Maris Hall, 1025 Commons Circle, Naples. The rally is to introduce the students to Ave Maria University and will include Eucharistic adoration, discussions, skits, a testimonial speaker, Vigil Mass, confession and dinner. $5. Pigeon swap

A pigeon swap and sale will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday at Barbara Ferrell Park, Williams Drive (off Lee Boulevard), Lehigh Acres. You will also learn about pigeons as a hobby. Information: (239) 821-3391.

Hurricane seminars

-- A hurricane-preparedness seminar will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Bonita Springs Public Library, 26876 Pine Ave., Bonita Springs. Free. Information: 992-0101.

-- Jan Bennet will discuss hurricane preparation at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Collier County Headquarters Library, 2385 Orange Blossom Drive. Registration is required. Free. 593-0177.

Voting 101

Jennifer Edwards, supervisor of elections for Collier County, will speak from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Naples Branch Library, 650 Central Ave., Naples. Sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Collier County, the talk will focus on the voting process and registering to vote.

Christmas in July

Residents of Merrill Gardens, 1710 S.W. Health Parkway, Naples, will enjoy Christmas on July 25. The event includes the arrival of Santa Claus at 2 p.m. with gifts for everyone.

Adoptions

Heart of Adoptions, a local adoption agency, will host a free seminar about adoptions from Guatemala from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Golden Gate High School, 2925 Magnolia Pond Lane, Room 3-126, Naples. Reservations are requested. Information: 594-2830.

Art education program

The Art League of Marco Island Home School Art Education program helps home-schooled children who live in Collier County fulfill their art education requirements. Classes meet from 1-2:30 p.m. for children aged 7-10 and 2:45-4:15 p.m. for children 11-14 on Tuesdays beginning Aug. 15, at 1010 Winterberry Drive, Marco Island. $12, (per week, paid monthly) plus $5 (materials, per month), Information: 394-4221.

New board members

The United Arts Council of Collier County, which promotes art and culture throughout the area, has appointed the following new board members:

-- Jacke McCurdy, an artist and art collector who lives in Bonita Springs. McCurdy is a retired attorney who served as vice-president of Jos. E. Seagram & Sons, Inc. in Baltimore.

-- Delores Sorey, a former president of the Naples Art Association. Sorey has a long history of community activism and leadership in the arts.

-- Charles J. “Charlie” Thomas, the senior development executive for Antaramian Development Group. Thomas is a past president of the Fifth Avenue South Association and was instrumental in the organization’s public art program.

-- Michael Windfeldt, president of Soleil Fine Arts, Inc., which operates the Galerie du Soleil in downtown Naples.

-- Mally Khorasantchi, a local artist and co-owner of Studio Blue in Naples.

Achievements and accolades

-- Elizabeth Bringardner, daughter of Tom and April Bringardner of Naples, has been named to the 2006 spring semester president’s honor roll at the University of Florida. Bringardner, who had a 4.0 GPA, is a Florida Cicerone/SAA (a UF ambassador) and a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.

-- Michael Hirsch will attend the 2006 Congressional student Leadership Conference sponsored by Lead America to be held in Boston. Hirsch is a student at Barron Collier High School.

-- L. Gail Markham, president of Markham, Norton, Mosteller, Wright & Company P.A. and a certified public accountant, has been named chair of the Lee County advisory board of PACE. The program is dedicated to impacting the lives of young women who have experienced hardships.

-- Meleah Matthews, a pilates instructor at Gold’s Gym on Trade Center Way, has been appointed the part-time assistant strength coach and pilates trainer for the University of Texas football team.

-- William H. Myers, William K. Stevens and Robert J. Stommel, all of Fowler, White, Boggs, Banker, have been recognized by Florida Super Lawyers 2006 in the estate planning and probate law category.

-- Theron L. Trimble, director of full-time equivalency, surveys and staff allocations for the Collier County School District, was awarded a 2006 Keizai Koho Center Educator Fellowship to travel and study in Japan.

-- Danny Urbisci, son of Geno and Annette Urbisci of Naples, has been named to the president’s honor roll for the 2006 spring semester at the University of Florida. Urbisci has a 4.0 GPA. He is a 2005 graduate of Barron Collier High School and has been accepted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Graduations

-- Rebecca Sonalia, daughter of Susan and Mike Harrison of Naples, received a juris doctor degree in family law from Michigan State University, College of Law on May 14. Sonalia, who was an RWA Writing Competition finalist, graduated with honors and received the Jurisprudence Award for cyber law.
