John J. Peters Jr., 83, of Naples, Fla., died on July 21, 2006. He was born on Sept. 22, 1922, in Philadelphia, Pa., and was the son of John Sr. and Florence Peters.
Before moving to Naples in 1991, he made his home in Canton, Ohio. Before his retirement, John was sales manager for Diamond Crystal Salt Company and had worked for them for over 37 years.
John served his country with the U.S. Army during WWII and received a Purple Heart. He made his home in the community of Mainsail and was known in the community as "Mayor of Mainsail." He was a graduate of Villanova University and received his bachelor's degree from there.
He is survived by a son, David and his wife, Cindy Peters of Linville Falls, N.C.; a daughter, Palmer and her husband, Bob Folger of Strasbury, Ohio; five granddaughters and four great-granchildren.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, and by three brothers.
There will be a visitation held at Hodges-Josberger Funderal Home, 577 Elkcam Circle, Marco Island, today from noon to 2 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the conclusion of the visitation.
There will be no burial because it was the wish of John to be cremated. Contributions can be made out to Hospice of Naples, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, Fla., 34105 or to the charity of one's choice.
