Naples' Kris Tamulis shot a 2-under 70 to win the Michigan Women's Open at Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville, Mich., last week. Tamulis lives in Florida, but summers at her parents' home in Onekama.
Tamulis, a Naples High graduate, won $5,500 and finished 1-over in the 54-hole event. She won by two strokes over LeAnna Wicks of Brighton.
"You have to keep hitting greens and giving yourself chances to make birdies," Tamulis told The Associated Press. "Let other people make mistakes. I can't control what other people are doing, so I tried to keep making birdies."
Carolyn Barnett-Howe of Appleton, Wis., finished third, six strokes off the pace.
Tamulis and Bonita Springs' Catherine Cartwright aren't in the Evian Masters, a small-field event on the LPGA Tour this week. Tamulis and former part-time Estero resident Karen Weiss are both in the Weetabix Women's British Open next week. Cartwright is not.
