Afternoon showers to continue drenching region

Fairly dry, hot mornings. Wet, downpour-filled afternoons. Stuffy, humid nights.

That's the type of summer weather expected for this weekend, just more of what Southwest Florida residents have come to expect for this time of year.

On Saturday, forecasters predict a 40 percent chance of rain mainly in the afternoon, with scattered thunderstorms. The high should reach 89 degrees, and the low will continue to stay around the mid-70's for the next several days.

Winds will be between 5 to 10 mph out of the east-southeast, and the humidity index will continue to stay in the 70 to 80 percent range.

According to several online weather sources, Sunday and the next several days will see more of the same type of weather, with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms hitting before midnight.
