Naples-based HMA acquires Mississippi hospital

Naples-based hospital operator Health Management Associates Inc. has acquired the 189-bed Gulf Coast Medical Center in Biloxi, Miss., effective today.

The medical center was owned by a subsidiary of Tenet Healthcare Corp.

Officials with HMA said they believe the acquisition will improve the company's health-care delivery system in the Biloxi area.

HMA operates 62 hospitals in 16 states with more than 8,800 beds.
