The Bonita Springs LPA today approved the redevelopment of a 20-acre property in the environmentally sensitive DR/GR area despite concerns over density and impact to the Imperial River.
The recommendation to City Council allows Eagle Bay LLC to build high density residential housing on the property that is the existing Glade Haven mobile home park.
LPA members expressed concern this decision would set a precedent that would open up the DR/GR to mass development, although the board as a whole said it would take the development one project at a time.
Cullum Hasty, LPA member, tried to table the decision, wanting the board to wait until further studies could be done and greater protections could be put in for the Imperial River. No one supported his motion.
Chairman Larry Warner abstained from the decision because he has a business relationship with the developer.
