Websites: Hurricane Tips

Tips and other information to get ready for hurricane season are available in many places on the Internet.

Listed below are some of those Web sites and a sampling of the information available at each:

www.naplesnews.com/news/weather/hurricanes/2006/ — This is the Naples Daily News' complete hurricane section online, including hurricane preparations from around the state, as well as live weather radar, shelter and evacuation routes for Collier and Lee counties.

www.collierem.org/ — The Collier County Emergency Management Web site lists storm bulletins and advisories, and a hurricane seminar schedule.

www.leeeoc.com/ — The Lee County Public Safety Web site lists storm bulletins and advisories, a hurricane preparedness manual and strike probabilities.

www.floridadisaster.org — Florida Division of Emergency Management provides information in English and Spanish about storm surges, inland flooding and marine safety. It includes tips for what to do before, during and after a hurricane, plus a kids' section and pet tips.

www.nhc.noaa.gov — The National Hurricane Center Web site provides weather forecasts with satellite imagery, storm-tracking charts and radar, and a history of past hurricanes.

www.nws.noaa.gov — The National Weather Service Web site. At the main map, click on the southern tip of Florida to see local weather maps. Complete and current weather statistics, including wind speeds, temperature, tides and marine and aviation forecasts are available.

www.fema.gov — The Federal Emergency Management Agency provides information in English and Spanish about protecting property from wind and the National Flood Insurance program.
