Editorial: Estero leaders council

Once again, stepping up to better the community

It’s an old phrase: Put your money where your mouth is.

At least one Estero civic leader isn’t hesitant to do so. Dan Dronkers, a member of the Estero Council of Community Leaders, has written a check to help pay for landscaping of Estero High School.

The school’s chain-link fence irks Estero folks, who embrace their rules for Mediterranean architecture and regulations for more landscaping than is required of the rest of the county. Some deride the school as the “pink prison” because of its appearance.

Dronkers and other council members plan to help Estero High with a $135,000 landscaping makeover and have started a tax-free improvement fund to do so.

Dronkers made the first donation, a check for $135. Now all the effort needs are the zeroes.

Remember, the site is Lee County School Board property. The ECCL does more than just talk about public policy. It actually dives in for a community project. Good work.

Now, who’s next?
