Letter: Waterpark fees too high for taxpayers

Dear Editor:

Looking at the budget of Sun-N-Fun Lagoon, the biggest expenses are salary related, which exceed $1 million per year.

Did the county have to build a facility that requires so many personnel, at such a cost, that it defeats the purpose of enjoyment of the public in general? The Collier County residents paid for this park and have earned a share and an expected enjoyment of it.

The county has an obligation to use the public's funds wisely and bring the admission fees into perspective.

Naples Zoo is an example where tourists pay the brunt of higher fees while locals have annual passes. So should be the case of this water park.

I do not choose to embarrass the personnel who contrived these fees, but I would suggest that those involved should take adequate steps to avoid looking foolish, in the public's eyes, at a minimum.
