Dating game

The American Cancer Society will benefit from the “Common Man and Woman Dating Game,” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill and Bar, Corkscrew Road, Estero. Registration required for all participants. $20. Information: Estero2222@aol.com

Aviation achievements

The following graduated from Europe-American Aviation:

-- First solo flight: Bill Shallcross, Thomas Kliem and Thomas Jansen.

-- New private pilots: Victor Costello and Christoph Wassenberg.

-- New instrument rated pilots: George Plourde, Silvia Berk, Friedrich Berk-Keppenhahn,Michael Schweikert and Jeannette Fischer.

-- New multi rated pilots: Kevin Grissinger, David Marshall, Jeannette Fischer and Silvia Berk.

-- New commercial-multi instrument rated pilots: David Marshall and Jeannette Fischer.

-- New multi engine flight instructor rated: Kevin Grissinger.

Adopt a cat in June

June is adopt-a-cat month and the Humane Society is celebrating by offering cat adoptions at half-price until June 30. Senior cats, 10 years and older, are now $17.50; adult cats, 16 weeks to nine years, $27.50; and kittens, under 16 weeks, $37.50. Cats may be seen from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays at 370 Airport-Pulling Road N., Naples. Information: 643-1555

Florida yards

The Collier County University extension office will present free workshops on Florida landscaping from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday (repeated June 10 and June 24) at 14700 Immokalee Road, Naples, and from 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 27 at the Golden Gate Community Center, 4701 Golden Gate Parkway, Naples. Summer reading

Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 5377 U.S. 41 N., Naples, will sponsor a summer reading program for children. Journals are available at www.barnesandnobleinc.com and at the store for children to record the books they read and their favorite part of the book. A coupon for a free book will be given to participants who read eight books. Information: 597-2040

VFW awards

The following awards were given on May 21 by VFW Post 7721:

-- Community Service: Meery Marcis, Battalion Chief William Moyer of the Golden Gate Fire Control and Rescue District and Lt. Dave Becker of Collier County Emergency Medical Services.

-- Local Law Enforcement Officer of the Year: Lt. Richard Hampton

-- Award of Appreciation: Sarah Jenkins.

The following students at St. Elizabeth Elementary School were winners in the coloring, drawing and essay contests:

-- Kindergarten-second grade coloring contest: Noah Lemoine, first place; Colin Sweeney, second place; and Noah Lemonie, third place.

-- Third and fourth grade drawing contest: Rayne Turdik, first place; Chelsea DeLatorre, second place; and Parker Osborne, third place.

-- Fifth and sixth grade essay contest: Jackie O’Neill, first place; Patrick Sweeney, second place; and Brenden Sweeney, third place.

Achievements and accolades

-- Alex Antilla of Naples and a senior at Washinton University in St. Louis was named by ESPN The Magazine to the first team academic all-district team. Antilla is on the men’s swimming and diving team.

-- Brittnie Howard and Brian Ospina received the 2006 Naples High School Band Boosters Scholarships.

-- Alex M. Jarstad won the Diana Mossip Memorial Scholarship of $300 from the Southwest Florida Chapter of Mensa. Jarstad is a student at Florida Gulf Coast University.

-- Erin L. Johnson, daughter of Henry and Jill Johnson of Naples, participated in the Bates College Junior Semester Abroad program. Johnson is a sociology major and studied in Rome. She is a 2003 graduate of Naples High School.

-- Fred Pezeshkan of Naples received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.

-- Andrew Robinson, son of Jan and Jerry Robinson of Naples, has been named a United States National Award Winner. Robinson is a student at St. John Neumann High School.

-- William Burkley Rolle of Immokalee was named to the 2006 spring semester dean’s list at Illinois State University.

-- Christine Wheeler is the winner of a $500 scholarship from the Southwest Florida Chapter of Mensa. Wheeler is a student at International College.

Graduations

-- Courtney Connolly of Naples graduated magna cum laude with a master’s degree in accounting from Wake Forest University on May 15.

-- John D. Dugan, son of Peggy and Kevin Dugan of Naples, graduated from Elon University on May 20 with a bachelor’s degree in business communications. He is a 2002 graduate of Gulf Coast High School.

-- Jason Douglas Foster, son of Doug and Patricia Foster, graduated cum laude from the University of South Florida in Tampa on May 6 with a bachelor’s degree in music education. Foster is a 2001 graduate of Barron Collier High School. He will be studying for a master’s degree in instrument conducting at the University of South Florida.

-- Aubrey Jolly Graham, daughter of Steven and Teresa Jolly of Naples, graduated from the University of Florida, College of Medicine on May 20. Graham received the John B. Gorrie Award, the highest honor awarded to a medical college graduate. She will do a residency at Duke for internal medicine.

-- Kiernan Laughlin of Naples graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree from Boston College, College of Arts & Sciences on May 22.

-- Larry Martin, son of Audrey Martin of Naples and L.G. Martin of Greenville, Ill., graduated cum laude with a master’s degree from the University of Florida, Fisher School of Accounting, Warrington Business School. He is a 2001 graduate of Naples High School and will be working for PricewaterhouseCooper, LLP in St. Louis.

-- Alexis Ocana of Naples graduated from Boston College, College of Arts & Sciences on May 22.

-- Lisa Osborne of Naples graduated from Harding University in Searcy, Ark.

-- Alexander Slater of Naples graduated from Boston College with a bachelor’s degree from the College of Arts & Sciences on May 22.

-- Lindsay Stephen, daughter of Michael and Jill Stephen of Naples, graduated with a master’s degree in hospitality and tourism global business leadership from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I. on May 18. Stephen is a graduate of Naples High School and has been accepted to the executive training program at Starbucks.

-- Michael R. Stephen, son of Michael and Jill Stephen of Naples, graduated from the University of Florida, College of Engineering with a bachelor’s degree in geomatics on May 5. Stephen is a graduate of Naples High School and is a survey technician for BLM Cadastral Field Surveys, Division of Geomatics in Anchorage, Alaska.
