Woman hit by train in Fort Myers

A woman was hit and pinned underneath a train in Fort Myers on Friday evening.

The accident happened near 3743 Palm Beach Boulevard at about 7 p.m., according to the Fort Myers Police Department. One of the woman’s arms was seriously injured and she was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital.

According to police reports, a woman and a man were sitting on the tracks as the train approached. The train engineer sounded his horn and the woman attempted to stand but fell back down before she was hit.

The man was not injured.

Paramedics and police officers were able to free the woman from underneath the train. Neither her name nor that of the man was available late Friday evening.
