So the school year is wrapping up and so is this column for the summer months. We want to leave you with a few important reminders.
• Summer school, for second through fourth grade students who need help with reading, begins Monday, June 19.
There is also summer school available for juniors and seniors who've previously failed the FCAT. The high school program begins this Wednesday, June 7. If you have a student who fits in either category, call the Summer School Office today at 377-1060.
• Speaking of reading, the Storytime TV read aloud show will continue through the summer. This is a perfect way to make sure your pre-kindergarten through fifth grade student is read to when you can't read to him or her. Storytime will be on The Education Channel, cable 20 each weekday at 9 a.m., 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. All five weekday shows are replayed at 8 a.m. each Saturday.
• During the summer months, the "best of" the School Zone TV shows can be found on The Education Channel. These are "virtual tours" of your schools.
Oakridge Middle School will be featured the week of July 3 and Big Cypress Elementary School will be featured the week of July 10.
Golden Gate Middle School will fall under the spotlight the week of Aug. 7.
• A final TV reminder, this one chance to "connect" with school district leaders. The new eConnection TV program gives you the chance to connect via e-mail questions sent to Superintendent Ray Baker and school board members who appear as guests on this brand new show.
Send your question today to eConnection@collier.k12.fl.us, then watch as it is answered, at 8:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays on The Education Channel, cable 20.
Thank you for reading our columns during the school year. We'll resume when school is back in session in August. We hope that you have a wonderful summer!
