Coming Sunday: The Price of Paradise

Want to find a neighborhood where you can afford to live? Want to find all the home sales in your neighborhood for the past three years?

Go to naplesnews.com and BonitaNews.com starting Sunday.

To custom build this searchable online database — the largest locally analyzed real estate pricing database that’s free to the public—a team of Daily News journalists analyzed more than 80,000 Collier and south Lee County home and condominium sales spanning 2003, 2004 and 2005. It’s all about Southwest Florida and it’s unparalleled online.

We calculated median prices for more than 1,600 single-family neighborhoods and condominium developments — nearly every one in Collier and south Lee County. But the amount of information available at your fingertips isn’t what makes this database unique: It’s the sheer amount of detail we added to data we obtained from the Collier and Lee property appraisers that increases the • Search our database of more than 80,000 sales transactions by street or address, median price, neighborhood, keyword or geographic area.

• For individual homes or condos sold from 2003 to 2005, find: sales price and date, year built, living area in square feet, average price per square foot and the median sales price for properties in that development for three years.

• Click on a neighborhood name and view an interactive map that shows all sales for a given neighborhood from 2003 to 2005.

• Check out our rankings of most expensive neighborhoods and appreciation rates.

• View photos of a sample house that sold at or near the 2005 median.

• Display graphs showing how the neighborhood median, price per square foot and number of sales have changed.

We built this database for our yearlong series on Southwest Florida’s affordable housing crisis. We hope online readers will find it a public service.
