What: “Learning to Create Florida Friendly Yards,” sponsored by the Collier County Extension Service, is offering ideas and information from Carolyn Cochrane, Florida Yards and Neighborhoods program coordinator, to help people identify and landscape with drought-tolerant plants that also enjoy Florida’s monsoon summers.

What: Miami’s oldest continuously running festival, the Royal Poinciana Fiesta, offers its fund-raiser Royal Poinciana Luncheon and Art Show and the annual trolley tours of greater Miami’s most dazzling blooming Royal Poinciana trees. It is sponsored by the Tropical Flowering Tree Society
Where: The Kampong, Former home of botanist David Fairchild, 4013 Douglas Road, Coconut Grove
When: 12:30-2:30 for luncheon, 2:30 p.m. for tours
Admission: $25 for luncheon, $20 for tours; reservations required

What: The Tropical Flowering Tree Society hears Harri Lorenzi, international flowering tree expert, from Brazil. The monthly program also includes flowering tree auctions and refreshments.

Admission: Visitors welcome free; membership, $20 a year
