The Florida Highway Patrol received an anonymous tip Saturday night from a caller who said they witnessed six men tie up a black man and put him into the back of a white van near the 120 mile marker on Interstate 75 in Lee County. The caller said the van headed south, authorities said.
FHP passed the tip to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, which passed it on to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at about 7:52 p.m., a Collier County sheriff’s deputy said. Deputies who cover the interstate and toll booth workers were told to be on the lookout for the van.
The van had not been located by 9 p.m. Saturday.
