Model of the week: London Bay Homes' Ashley model features elegance in a timeless island rhythm

Outdoor living and a design influenced by the traditional architecture of Bermuda characterize The Ashley, a furnished model by London Bay Homes within Quail West Golf & Country Club.

The Ashley has four bedrooms, four full baths, a study and a powder room with 5,110 square feet of air-conditioned area. With outdoor living and dining areas and a three-car garage, the home has 7,377 total square feet under roof.

Coconut palms, live oak trees and bougainvillea vines infuse the landscape with a natural grace. Cream stucco walls blend with accents of deep green on colonial and Bermuda shutters, and with wood tones of the tongue and groove ceiling above the mahogany entry door. Stalks of bamboo and papyrus at either side of the entry extend a tropical welcome.

The initial view from the foyer is of the covered outdoor living room with a pyramid wood ceiling and water views beyond. The stone fireplace offers a focal point for a comfortable seating area with built-in benches and woven reed club chairs. Exterior draperies gently frame the view of a runnel water feature that tiers down to the water’s edge, cascading the water into the multilevel pool which features an elevated spa.

Continuity throughout the home is established with subtle repetition of design elements, such as the scalloped stone parapet above the fireplace, first seen on the home’s exterior facade. Travertine flooring used in the home’s interior living spaces is carried through to the outdoor living room.

The formal dining room is a series of captivating architectural details. A view through French doors of a private garden with palms, bromeliads, papyrus and orchids planted around a pond, serves to enlarge the setting while capturing natural light. The dining room’s vaulted tongue and groove ceiling and beams are painted a pale cream. Upholstered wall treatments soften the atmosphere.

Reminiscent of a classic cellar, a dedicated wine room has an antique brick entry and floor and is equipped with Sub-Zero temperature controlled refrigeration as well as dry wine storage. With walls of muted gold Venetian plaster, a granite-topped bar and recessed lighting to illuminate fine craftsmanship, the room is a showpiece.

The kitchen, which earned a 2004 Sand Dollar Award, features stained and glazed maple wood cabinetry and a tumbled marble backsplash. Raffia panels applied to the range hood and cabinet doors reinforce an island ambiance. Mounted high, glass-fronted cabinets which showcase treasured curios are by themselves a decorative design element. The center work island and countertops feature honey-toned Jungle Gold granite with a rounded ogee edge.

The kitchen is equipped with a Wolf six-burner range, dual ovens, ASKO dishwashers on either side of the sink and Sub-Zero double door refrigeration. Behind integrated cabinet panels, most of these appliances are not seen or heard.

Between the dining room and the kitchen, is a butler’s pantry and a walk-in pantry with floor-to-ceiling shelving.

The kitchen is center stage for entertaining with a nook seating eight and surrounded by French doors with transom windows. A multilevel peninsula is more than an additional preparation area for the cook; its breakfast bar seats five and is open to the family room. All three areas offer views of the pool pavilion and golf course beyond.

The family room features a tongue-and-groove ceiling with wood beams. The stained and glazed maple wood custom entertainment center holds a rear-projection television. Rust and gold is the color scheme. A sofa framed in woven reed is casual in tone, while a large antique Oriental carpet reinforces the timeless spirit of the home.

Pocketing sliding glass doors open to wrap-around outdoor areas that include a fully-equipped summer kitchen with cypress cabinetry, counter seating and an al fresco dining area. This covered setting looks out to the spa and pool with water jet emitters, and a long view of Quail West golf course.

Adjacent to the outdoor dining and summer kitchen, a detached cabana is a private retreat offering its own entrance. French doors and a private courtyard garden with a fountain instill the impression of a luxury bed and breakfast in the tropics.

While the rest of The Ashley is imbued with a timeless elegance, this getaway expresses a more definitive tropical influence and features bamboo wainscoting and a vaulted ceiling lined with panels of split bamboo.

The guest cabana’s full bathroom features a shower with Bisazza glass mosaic tile the shade of green bamboo, a treatment repeated in floor grout lines. This bathroom has a separate entrance and can be used as a pool bath.

One wing of The Ashley is a sanctuary consisting of a study and the master suite.

In the study, French doors open to a trellis and the pool patio. Brazilian walnut flooring, stained and glazed maple cabinetry and a desktop of Himalayan Gold granite are aesthetically pleasing. A granite-topped entertainment bar, refrigerator, wide screen TV and comfortable seating invite relaxation.

The master suite is an all-inclusive retreat overlooking the outdoors. Floor-to-ceiling windows facing the golf course are adorned with a scalloped architectural molding. The four-poster bed has a cream colored damask bedspread. The recessed cove lit ceiling features a decorative border painted over a luster faux finish. Cream colored silk draperies and an assortment of pillows finished with tassels and trim receive occasional accents of coral and gold. The carpeted room has an alcove with upholstered seating and an ottoman that is an ideal spot for a quiet moment.

The master bathroom is joined by a series of rooms. The spa-inspired bathroom features an Italianate chandelier hanging from a barrel vault ceiling. The entire room is enhanced by the floor-to-ceiling view of a private tropical garden. The Roman tub has a backsplash of Italian Crema Marfil marble. A large walk-in shower, tiled in marble to the ceiling, has seating and a rain drench showerhead. The tub deck and vanity tops with decorative backsplash are of red tinted Breccia Pernice granite. Flooring is Crèma Maya marble. His-and-her walk-in closets are carpeted and feature cabinetry and boutique lighting.

The home has two additional guest bedroom suites, each with its own walk-in closet and bath. These rooms share a common guest study area with a desk ready for computer access.

Each room in The Ashley makes a statement with unique furnishings and custom designed window treatments.

The powder bath features Rombo Hierro tumbled travertine flooring, Juperana granite with a decorative backsplash on the reproduction antique vanity, walls of Venetian plaster with a faux trim on white wood molding and draperies finished with beaded fringe.

Amenities include an integrated audio/video system that provides entertainment throughout the home and professionally designed lighting with LiteTouch Control System. Icynene insulation completely insulates and seals the structure for increased energy efficiency and improved indoor air quality.

The laundry room provides ample cabinets and countertops as well as a rinse sink, shower and ASKO appliances.
