Permits for Lee homes continue to increase

Permits for single-family homes in Lee County continued to climb last month, with a 4.7 percent increase from April's numbers.

The county Community Development Department issued 906 single-family permits in May, showing a slow come back from the slump following last year's record-breaking numbers that reached $4.7 billion.

The 906 single-family permits valued at $242.7 million only outnumbered the May 2005 numbers by five permits, but they are more than double the 445 permits issued in May 2003.

The county also issued last month permits for 176 duplexes and 150 multi-family units.

The numbers include unincorporated Lee County, the city of Bonita Springs and the town of Fort Myers Beach.
