The Los Angeles Dodgers selected former Barron Collier and current Clemson University first baseman Andy D'Alessio in the 10th round of Tuesday's Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. He was the 293 rd player selected overall.
D'Alessio became one of college baseball's top infielders, hitting .321 with 22 home runs and 80 RBIs going into the Tigers' NCAA super regional series against Oral Roberts. His season home run total is eighth-best in school history, while his season RBI total is tied for sixth-best. His 41 career home runs are ninth-best in school history.
Twice this season, he was named a National Player of the Week, was an all-ACC selection and made the NCAA Clemson regional tournament team last week after going 4 for 9 with two home runs and five RBIs in three games.
The Cincinnati Reds picked D'Alessio in the 10th round of the 2003 draft, after a stellar Barron Collier career. Baseball America named him the country's best prep first baseman that year, but a wrist injury kept him out of more than half the Cougars' games.
