French official in Naples to thank veterans

The consul general of France in Miami is in Naples today to thank veterans who helped liberate France during World War II.

Philippe Vinogradoff will present a “Thank You America” certificate to about 20 Collier veterans during a ceremony at Royal Wood Country Club House, 4300 Royal Wood Blvd. Reservations are required to attend.

The certificate is meant to express the gratitude of the French people to the soldiers who participated in the Normandy landing and liberation of France, on French territory and in French territorial waters and airspace, organizers said.

Naples Mayor Bill Barnett is scheduled to speak.

The ceremony was organized by the UFE of Naples (French Community Association), the Collier County Veterans Council, the French-American Chamber of Commerce of Florida and The Alliance Francaise of Bonita Springs.
