Man could get 25 years for drug, fraud charges

A Fort Myers Beach man was arrested Monday at the intersection of U.S. 41 East and Bayshore Drive for drug trafficking and could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted on those charges, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office said.

Kevin Kosik, 31, 150 Lenell Road, Fort Myers Beach, had 86.5 grams of hydrocodone with an estimated street value of $330, 16.5 grams of oxycodone valued at $1,040, 7.5 grams of alprazolam worth $60, and 1.5 grams of methylphenidate worth $80, authorities said.

Charges stemming from the incident include two counts of trafficking in oxycodone, trafficking in hydrocodone, sale of a controlled substance, possession of methylphenidate, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell (methylphenidate), and possession of a controlled substance (alprazolam).

Kosik is also charged with criminal use of personal identification information and forgery, authorities said.

The Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrested Kosik in 2003 and charged him with trafficking of opium or a derivative, possession of cocaine and fraudulently obtaining a controlled substance.

Kosik was also charged with fraud related to that incident for possessing a blank prescription form. Kosik’s trial for the 2003 charges is scheduled for later this month, authorities said.

If Kosik is convicted on the new charges, he faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 25 years in prison.
