Single-family home permits rise nearly 5 percent in May

Permits for single-family homes in Lee County continued to climb last month, with a 4.7 percent increase from April's numbers.

The county Community Development Department issued 906 single-family permits in May, showing a slight comeback from a recent slowdown following last year's record-breaking numbers.

The 906 single-family permits, valued at a total $242.7 million, outnumbered the May 2005 numbers by only five permits, but they are more than double the 445 permits issued in May 2003.

The county also issued permits for 176 duplexes and 150 multi-family units in May.

The numbers include unincorporated Lee County, the city of Bonita Springs and the town of Fort Myers Beach.
