Thieves break into Bonita Middle; swipe cash, jewelry, equipment, snacks

Thieves broke into Bonita Springs Middle School late last week, stealing a handheld personal organizer and a digital camera from the assistant principal's office.

Principal Joe Williams reported the theft to Lee County sheriff's deputies Friday morning. According to reports, Williams noticed the break-in at 7:15 a.m., when he arrived at the West Terry Street school and saw a window broken by a brick.

Once inside, thieves broke a glass door to enter the principal's office, where they took $53 cash from a safe and a gold bracelet valued at $75.

They then entered the assistant principal's office, where they took a personal organizer valued at $300 and a digital camera valued at $150.

During the break-in, fire extinguishers were sprayed throughout the hallways, teachers lounge and media room. Also stolen was $10 worth of snacks from a vending machine.

The case is under investigation.
